PTSD Support | Carleton Place Therapist
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is effective in reducing and often eliminating the effects of childhood trauma, loss, abuse, injury, medical trauma or any shocking event. TIR is very effective with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

The technique may involve viewing the trauma or difficult event with no time limit, until there is resolution, relief and satisfaction for each session. This is a little like watching a DVD and being able to stop and freeze the frame at the beginning, viewing it, talking about it, and stopping and starting it again. It gives a sense of control of the memory, and then release, resolution and eventual freedom from it!

When you are finished with the process, after a number of sessions, the incident no longer has any power over you. This releases the emotional charge you may have been carrying around for years related to that event.

It also helps you come to new insights about the meaning of what happened, and finally gives you peace. When an aha moment is reached, the session is usually over for that day.
The client is always left in a good place at the end of session. If a client is not ready to face up to a traumatic or difficult experience, lighter techniques are used such as "Exploring" and "Unblocking" , which increase confidence and provide some relief.

Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR) is an effective technique which is evidenced based and listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidenced-based Programs and Practices. For more information on TIR visit http://www.tir.org/

The Lighter techniques may also be used for releasing emotional charge, and getting clarity on an issue such as a relationship, job or career. A client centered approach is paramount with all the techniques, with the client finding his or her answers through powerful questions, and through deep listening without the therapist reacting or judging. This creates a sense of safety, freedom to express, and a relief of mental and emotional charge.
